Strong Sunday ride saves Portimao weekend for Savadori

The Italian crossed the line in sixth in Race Two and kept his cool after Saturday’s mistake

Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia) managed to pull back a convincing result on Sunday at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve after his disappointing Race One crash. Crossing the line in sixth position and ahead of his teammate, the Italian wrestled back some valuable points for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship.

Starting from eleventh on the grid was not an ideal situation for Savadori and handicapped the RSV4 in what was an important weekend for the team. The 25-year-old still managed to make the most of it however, sticking some strong passes on Loris Baz (GULF Althea BMW Racing Team) and Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Junior Team) amongst others throughout his upwards climb.

The focus on Sunday for Savadori was to forget his Race One crash, when the Italian fell whilst riding in third place: “Yesterday [Saturday] I tried to push hard at the beginning to make the podium. I think it was our target but unfortunately, I crashed, I lost the front”.

“As for today, when you start in 11th position it’s not an easy race”, he adds. “I lost a bit too much time at the beginning. When I passed into sixth position I tried to push again and try and take on Tom Sykes, but I started getting vibrations at the front and struggled a lot until the end of the race”.
